CURRENT SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE:
Oviraptor lived in China during the Late Cretaceous Period approximately 71 to 75 million years ago. The first Oviraptor specimen was discovered in 1923 and later described in 1924. Oviraptor earned its name due to the circumstances of its discovery. When its bones were originally unearthed, paleontologists believed that the Oviraptor was trying to steal eggs from a Ceratopsian nest. After a re-analysis of the original fossil specimen, it showed that the Oviraptor was actually in a nesting position and taking care of its own clutch of eggs!
Despite most of its depictions in popular culture, it is currently unknown if the Oviraptor possessed the large crest on the top of its head. Rather, the crest comes from a specimen called the “Zamyn Khondt Oviraptor”, which may or may not be the dinosaur Citipati.

SPECIES OBSERVATIONS ON PETREL'S PARADISE:
The Oviraptor population is widely distributed throughout the entirety of the Orion’s Eye Archipelago, but primarily inhabit areas close to an abundance of herbivores. This strategic placement offers Oviraptor both protection from larger predators as well as plentiful food sources ranging from fallen leaves and fruit to stolen eggs!
True to their name, Oviraptor are adept thieves. Capable of employing a combination of cunning, stealth, and their grasping claws, they can steal anything that catches their interest. Their thieving antics were a major source of frustration for the Mercenaries in the Expedition.
